We’ve all been in a place where we wanted to make things happen on our own because we want it done in a specific way and/ or sometimes done by a specific time. If not you, I know I have. I often ask how I can trust in God’s timing when I want to live by my own plans and want things done on my own terms. We also have to remember prayer changes things too. But often then not, we have to learn to relinquish control and give it all to Him. Life is so much sweeter when we fall back into the Father’s arms and throw our cares on Him.
How To Trust in God’s Timing
Be Patient and Wait
As the scripture says, “Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage”. When we have our ideas and tasks at hand, we want them done immediately. Oftentimes, God’s plans and timing is longer than we would want which is why David instructs us to wait on the LORD. Waiting on the LORD renews our strength ( Isaiah 40:31 ) and allows us to wait longer when our timeline has expired. He is never late and always on time.
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.” – Psalm 37 :7-9
Find Purpose in it
As we wait for our prayers to be answered, we can find purpose in our waiting. The Father is a teacher and he loves to teach us valuable lessons in this life. If God didn’t want us to have something right away, there is either a lesson to be learned or some form of circumcision to be had. One of our highest callings is to live and be like Christ; and since we’re born into sin we are governed by our flesh until we come into the blood of Christ. So with that being said, God is preparing us for the very prayer he wants to answer. He’s making us ready to receive all that He has for us.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Sometimes The Hard Thing To Do Is Usually The Easiest
My husband and I were recently faced with a situation where we had to make a tough decision. For this particular decision, I wanted things to be done my way and I wanted things at a specific time. It’s funny how, my way was causing me so much stress and anxiety but in my head it felt as if it was the easy way out. But then when I was faced with the difficult decision to do the opposite which really was the harder part of it all turned out to be the best thing that my husband and I could have done. After the decision, it brought me so much peace and I knew we were trusting in God’s timing. So yea, the hard thing to do is usually the easiest with God but He gives us strength to trust in his timing for our lives and to have faith that he will do what he promised.
Trust Him With Your Life
I hope whatever situation you find yourself in that you would lean on God and trust Him with your life. He knows what he is doing and will not let you stumble or fall. He has your best interest in mind, and knows what, why and when you need something. When we trust in God’s timing it can be a hard thing to do, but it doesn’t have to be. The very most important thing is He is our Father and like any good Father, He is always with us.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”
– Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Needed this right now! The verse that always speaks to me & what I’ve been meditating on is ” “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.” I’ve been praying to have his stillness with me throughout the day as I wait for the things I think I need, knowing His timing is perfect. Thank you for the introspective post.
