If you read our pregnancy announcement post, you’d know that we celebrated the news of the upcoming arrival of our little one in December 2019. That began the first trimester of pregnancy for us. As stated previous, we were overwhelmed with all the emotions. Without a doubt, I immediately felt connected to our little bundle of joy. And our journey of pregnancy symptoms were soon to kick in.
The first trimester of pregnancy is considered as weeks 1-13. Which takes you from 0-3 months. At this stage, I had to remind myself I was still pregnant because oftentimes I did not feel like it. This is due to the fact you’re not set to start feeling movement until your second trimester. Here’s my first trimester of pregnancy breakdown:
First Trimester of Pregnancy | Weeks 5-8
I was 5 weeks when we found out and immediately started to feel the waves of nausea. I was so bummed when I couldn’t eat chik-fila without running to the toilet. Fatigue and tiredness also started to make its way in the first trimester. I felt as if I had been up for days, the exhaustion was crazy. I’d find myself falling asleep whenever I could snag the chance. Which is why i couldn’t live without the perfect maternity pillow.
One symptom that caught me off guard was the bloat! I had no idea, I’d be bloated for the majority of the time. This had me mistakenly believe I had a baby bump. I did not. It was only bloat.
I also was VERY hormonal! I think I cried over the silliest things. For example, not being about to flip my grilled cheese correctly or at the end of a movie the way the husband wooed his wife. Y’all I was an emotional wreck. My husband was so confused and kept asking “girl, are you okay?!” I was a mess, so much so it’s laughable now.
First Trimester of Pregnancy | Weeks 9-12
For some reason, my nausea stopped around week 9 but showed up again around week 12. I also made the mistake of eating for two before I was supposed to. I felt I needed to eat constantly because I was pregnant. In this portion of the first trimester, I was able to get a grip on healthy meals to nourish me and baby. Week 9 was also the first time we got to see our little nugget.
Around week 12 is when the cravings started to kick in. I noticed after my nausea subsided, I was able to start wanting food again. My cravings have consisted of everything tangy and savory. Like vinegar and cheese, lol obviously not together but you know. Here’s a tip of advice, don’t give into your cravings every time you have one, they come and go. But some linger around a lot longer.
He Formed You…
Overall, I’d say the first trimester of pregnancy was not so bad. I only dealt with nausea, fatigue, and the bloat. It’s amazing how so much is happening to our bodies at this stage. We’re going through so much to house a baby. It’s insane and the LORD is magnificent at creating it.
“You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside
and my intricate outside,
and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
14 I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex!
Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.
It simply amazes me to think about it!
How thoroughly you know me, Lord!
15 You even formed every bone in my body
when you created me in the secret place,
carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something.
16 You saw who you created me to be before I became me!
Before I’d ever seen the light of day,
the number of days you planned for me
were already recorded in your book.” – Psalm 139: 13-16
