It seems my second trimester of pregnancy came so quickly. Along with my growing belly and insane appetite, this is when it all got a lot more real for my husband and I. It’s nothing like my first trimester, where I was always so exhausted and sick. In the second trimester, I started to feel myself again with a huge amount of energy. Let’s get into how my second trimester has been different.
The second trimester of pregnancy is considered as weeks 14-27. Which takes you from 4-7 months. This is the stage where sleep gets more uncomfortable and you’re awoken every hour to pee. This is due to the fact your bump is starting to show and your baby weighs a lot more. Here’s my second trimester of pregnancy breakdown:
Second Trimester of Pregnancy | Weeks 14-20
Around week 12, baby’s genitals begin to form and you can make out if it’s a girl or a boy. Here’s when my craving really started to ramp up, from everything to Nacho Cheese Doritos to mint chocolate chip ice cream! As mentioned before, I gained so much energy in this portion of the trimester. I also started to feel movement around week 13, but it was subtle like little muscle twitches. Then around Week 18, we really started to feel her move and it was so precious. I think the most precious thing is experiencing my husband feel her move and respond to his voice.
We were supposed to wait until our 20 week ultrasound to find out gender but we found out early at 16 weeks. My bloat soon became a bump and soon couldn’t fit any of my pre-pregnancy pants. Quite honestly, after we found out the gender it seemed it was smooth sailing. Except the peeing in the middle of the night, that’s not fun at all.
Second Trimester of Pregnancy | Weeks 21- 27
Around week 25, I took my glucose test which is where they pre-screen for gestational diabetes by drinking a syrupy drink with 75 mg of sugar in it. I failed my first test by 7 points and I believe it was due to an appointment being later in the day and I ate at least 3 small meals before the appt which caused my sugar to spike. I had to go back in two weeks to retake for a vigorous 3 hour test where they had to draw blood 4 times! My poor arm. I passed so I won’t have to do that again not at least until my second pregnancy.
I can’t believe I’m almost a third of the way through and as time gets closer I get more anxious and excited for our little one’s arrival. Everyday I feel her move around in my tummy and I speak and pray over her. I never knew you could love a person so much that you’ve never even met.
My husband and I are more than excited and thrilled to have her in our arms. I can’t stop myself from buying little tiny shoes and clothes. Our lives will never be the same and we are already forever changed by her presence.
